Legal

Terms of Service

Last updated: June 2026 (DRAFT)

1. Platform Role

STX.ESQ is a technology platform that verifies attorneys and routes qualified intakes between clients and counsel. STX.ESQ is not a law firm, does not provide legal advice, and does not enter into attorney–client relationships. Nothing on this platform creates an attorney–client relationship.

2. Accounts and Eligibility

Attorney accounts require successful completion of our eight-layer verification (bar admission, malpractice insurance, identity, disciplinary screen, and continuous monitoring). Client accounts are open to individuals and entities seeking counsel. You agree to provide accurate information and to keep your account credentials secure.

3. Fees and Refunds

Attorneys pay flat fees only: a Credential subscription for verification and monitoring, an optional Practice Tools subscription, and per-credit charges for delivered qualified intakes. STX.ESQ never charges contingency, percentage, or referral fees. Lead credits are non-refundable once consumed (one credit per delivered intake receipt). Subscription payments are billed monthly or annually in advance; cancel any time to stop renewal — we do not pro-rate refunds for unused subscription time. No auto-recharge of credit packs.

4. Data Handling

Client intake content is encrypted in transit and at rest. Intake records are visible only to the client who created them and the attorney(s) the client consented to share with. We do not sell client or attorney data. Verification evidence (bar status, insurance declarations) is retained for the duration of the attorney's account plus a seven-year audit window.

5. Document Retention

Append-only verification, billing, credit, lead-receipt, and email-event records are retained for at least seven years to support audit and regulatory inquiries. Account and profile data may be deleted on written request, subject to legal hold and retention obligations.

6. Acceptable Use

No scraping, automated submissions outside our public APIs, attempts to circumvent rate limiting or verification, or use of the platform for unlawful purposes. We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these terms.

7. Disclaimers and Limitation of Liability

The platform is provided "as is." STX.ESQ disclaims all warranties to the maximum extent permitted by law and is not liable for the conduct, advice, or work product of any attorney listed on the platform. Attorneys are solely responsible for compliance with their jurisdiction's rules of professional conduct.

8. Changes

We may update these Terms; we will notify account holders by email of material changes and update the "Last updated" date above.
